This new release includes two major new features. The process drive settings are extended to perform process simulations of linear friction welding. Temperature fields, the weld flash, shortening speed, and more can be determined predictively, as is known from the virtua RFW simulations of rotational friction welding and friction stir spot welding.

Furthermore, a new module allows to simulate residual stresses after the welding processes, which can lead to deflections, cracks and reduced fatigue life due to the unfortunate superposition with external loads. Friction welding poses a particularly high risk for residual stresses, as friction welding involves high process forces and the heat distribution is very inhomogeneous.

A lot has also happened in the background. Several functions have become more robust and efficient.
